Inspired by her roots and culinary adventures, Gena has brought an authentic Thai menu to the Food Dock, built around the vibrant flavours and warm sense of community that defines Thai street food πΉπβ€οΈ
Below, Gena gives us an insight into what it`s like being an independent business owner in Gloucester, and her proudest moment so far β€οΈ
What inspired you to open your business at the Food Dock?
I loved the idea of bringing proper bold Bangkok street food flavours into a place that already had such a strong independent food scene. Gloucester Food Dock has a really good energy β people come there to eat, socialise, try something new, and support local businesses. It felt like the right home for BKK from the start.
Alsoβ¦ Iβm Thai, so feeding people is basically in my DNA. There was never any escaping it π
What has been your proudest moment so far?
Honestly, seeing customers come back again and again. The first time people start saying things like βthis is our Friday spotβ or βwe brought our friends because you told us to try the fried chickenβ β that means more than any Instagram post ever will.
Building something from scratch is brutal at times, so seeing BKK become part of peopleβs routine is probably the proudest part.
What is your favourite dish/drink from another Food Dock member?
Dangerous question because now everyone will judge me π but Iβm a sucker for good coffee and pastries, and I also love trying different small plates around the Dock when I actually get five minutes to sit down like a normal human being.

You cannot beat a gelato shake on a hot day β three scoops of gelato, topped up with milk, and whipped cream/sauces/toppings on top!
Any new dishes, concepts, events on the horizon?
Yes, we are looking to launch our new βdeluxeβ hot chocolate very soon, something which can be drunk on its own, paired with gelato, or even as a small accompaniment for your gelato scoops, to give that extra hint of indulgence. We are also looking to increase our takeaway offer, to bring even more flavours to our customers, which are not always available in standard takeaway tubs.
Their favourite thing about Gloucester:
Gloucestershire is an amazing food county, with a rich agricultural pedigree, and home to so many small businesses and artisans, many of whom we co-locate with at the Food Dock. It is not hard in Gloucestershire to find good food, and it is such a well-located city, with so much of the UK accessible within 2 hours.

Below we asked them more about their experience here at the Food Dock, and uncover how a family farming operation became such a beloved part of the foodie community here in Gloucester!
What inspired you to open your business at the Food Dock?
"Having lived and worked in Gloucester all our lives, we have always had an attachment to the city and its history and love the regeneration that the Docks has seen in the last two decades. With our business already operating from its Farm HQ, we wanted to bring our product to a more central location, something which our customers had long encouraged us to do. The Food Dock and its focus on independent businesses like ours, was the perfect opportunity to take the next step as a business."
What has been your proudest moment so far?
"We love walking through the Docks and seeing people walking along the waterfront eating gelato or drinking shakes or coffees. Being a heavily take-out product, seeing people enjoying it on the go is really satisfying. We have also been thrilled with the amount of returning customers we seem to have, which hopefully means we are doing something right. One of our regulars, John, seems to be with us most days, which we and our staff love."
What is your favourite dish/drink/menu item from another Food Dock member?
"We love the collaborations with other businesses using our milk or gelato in their menu offering, especially the guys at Our House who pair the product so beautifully with their drinks/cocktails. But we are both massive Pizza lovers, so Bella Mia always go down well!!"
